RESTYLANE® -- Instant and long-lasting wrinkle correction
Restylane is a safe and natural dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Restylane is a crystal-clear, biodegradable gel made of a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid (HA).
Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate polymer (glycosaminoglycan) that exists naturally in all living organisms. It is a natural component of connective tissues, including the skin where it provides volume and fullness. Hyaluronic acid is a major component of the extracellular matrix, is distributed widely throughout connective, epithelial, and neural tissues, is one of the chief lubricating components of synovial fluid in joints, contributes significantly to cell proliferation and migration, and participates in a number of cell surface receptor interactions.
The hyaluronic acid molecule is not species specific and is the same for all mammals. As a result, the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a called NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid); it is free from animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmissions or development of allergic reactions to animal proteins, and no skin test is required.
Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is has a strong affinity for water. As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide long-lasting results.

The typical treatment lasts approximately six months, and in some instances Restylane has been shown to be effective for an even longer period of time.
