RESTYLANE® -- Instant and long-lasting wrinkle correction

Restylane is a safe and natural dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Restylane is a crystal-clear, biodegradable gel made of a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid (HA).

Hyaluronic acid is a carbohydrate polymer (glycosaminoglycan) that exists naturally in all living organisms. It is a natural component of connective tissues, including the skin where it provides volume and fullness. Hyaluronic acid is a major component of the extracellular matrix, is distributed widely throughout connective, epithelial, and neural tissues, is one of the chief lubricating components of synovial fluid in joints, contributes significantly to cell proliferation and migration, and participates in a number of cell surface receptor interactions.

The hyaluronic acid molecule is not species specific and is the same for all mammals. As a result, the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a called NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid); it is free from animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmissions or development of allergic reactions to animal proteins, and no skin test is required.

Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is has a strong affinity for water. As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide long-lasting results.

One of the great advantages of Restylane is that it is long-lasting, but not permanent. The typical treatment lasts approximately six months, and in some instances Restylane has been shown to be effective for an even longer period of time. When totally absorbed, Restylane turns into water and carbon dioxide. Unlike permanent treatments or implants, Restylane always leaves you with the option of re-evaluating your needs when the initial effect has worn off. A follow-up treatment can be performed at any time after the previous treatment.

Restylane was the first FDA-approved, non-animal, stabilized, injectable hyaluronic acid for aesthetic use. To date, Restylane has been used successfully for millions of treatments in more than 70 countries worldwide -- and remained the most commonly used hyaluronic acid filler in both the United States and Europe in 2006.

RESTYLANE® Treatment

Restylane gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement, for your skin. The injected gel produces natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. Smoothing out wrinkles by adding volume can make an enormous difference to your appearance. Restylane works well to improve the nasolabial folds, perioral lip lines and the lip border, red lip fullness, the corners of the mouth, marionette lines, the pre-jowl sulcus, the chin crease, the cheeks, the tear trough deformity, and some scars. Restylane can be used almost anywhere on the face with good results.

Restylane has become the market leading dermal filler. According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 1,194,222 hyaluronic acid treatments were performed in the US in 2005, making this the third most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure; this was a 35% increase from the previous year.

Achieving the look you desire is quick and easy. The versatility of Restylane allows you to have a natural improvement with the body's own material. Restylane restores natural volume in your skin to smooth out lines and wrinkles and produce new fullness and firmness, resulting in a healthy, vital appearance. The results of Restylane treatments can be seen immediately, and treatments can be repeated as often as you like.
